Are there any updates to what drives are out there that are bootable? I read the thread about Lacie not being, read a thread that referenced another that had a list with some drives in it, but it was some months old. From these threads people seem to be using:

A buslkin one: http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-Universal_Buslink_BUSlink_USB_2_0_Slim_Combo_D_RWD8_U2

A liteon: https://www.maxgroup.com/products/details.asp?item=LT33412NSX

A Sunshine: http://store.shentech.com/suusb2024exs.html

An unamed Liteon

A rather pricey lightscribe: http://www.freecom.com/ecProduct_detail.asp?ID=2226&nr=25219&prodn=FS%2D50+DVD%2B%2F%2DRW+8x+DL+LightScribe

Are all of these bootable? Any newer ones or others on the market?

Maybe we could get a pinned what slim external drive to get for bootability. :-)

On thing is for sure, the Lacie slim DVD-RW drives are NOT bootable

P1510 (60GB,1GB,BT,XPT), Portreplicator, Lacie USB DVD-RW

A word about the LiteOn SOSW-831 - its has been critised in reviews on the reliabilty of DVD writing. Looks like the slot mechanism is more sexy than practical!
I have the slightly older SOSW-833 which has a traditional tray. It works fine and boots.

Hey Nigel...you able to run the Sunshine DVD/CD off of the USB w/o the AC adapter? for both DVD Playback and CD writing?

Yes, I am. I remember once not reading some home made cd when on battery and drive plugged in the left USB port, but thats all. You know the right USB port gives more power.
