Hi there all!
I'm glad I found this specific forum!
I recently purchased a Fujitsu P-1000 and very happy with it for what I need it for. It came with WinME which I don't like. I then puchased the exact specified CD ROM drive for the machine from the USA.
Connected it up but there's no power - looked through the BIOS for any setting - nothing.
To test, I plugged the CD ROM into my Dell 8500 power laptop - and bingo, power LED lit up !
So, I now know the unit is not a dud - but how do I get the P-1000 to allow it to work?
I've tried re-working the BIOS boot options, no joy..
I'd really love to get this little machine running nicely on W2000 - any ideas or things to check in order to help resolve this!?!
Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I should have made it a little clearer, I visted the Fujitsu site and eventually found the P-1000 listing/model. I looked on the 'Options' for this machine and the CD ROM drive was listed as 'FPCCD19' - So I found one on the US Ebay site and purchased.
Also, it doesn't come with a power supply, it takes power via the PCMCIA slot, My 'test' in my Dell laptop confirms that. However, I shall connect it to my Dell this evening, and actually 'install' a program to fully test that the Drive is fully working.
I now suspect that the Mobo inside the P1000 is faulty that it's not supplying power to the PCMCIA slot.
I'll take a look at installing without CD, Floppy drives article - I want to install Windows2000 as it's not as 'heavy' as XP and I know this little P1000 cannot run XP smoothly enough.
Any other suggestions/things to try? - Methinks a call to Fujitsu is next, see what/if they say will work!

Short answer: PCMCIA is not bootable.
You'd need an external USB optical drive, and even then, not all models are bootable on the P-1k. If you're into DOS and drivers, you could try to use a bootable USB floppy drive and boot to DOS, then load the PCMCIA and ASPI drivers for the P-1k to read the PCMCIA drive. But that's only theoretical; as far as I know, no one has been able to do this.
Search the forum and archive for all pointers on how to install an OS on the P-1k (check all different model numbers), because it's a tricky but documented issue. Some external drives work, others don't, some people use networking, some take out the hard drive and install it elsewhere. |

Hi Oion
Thanks for that update, not what I wanted to hear! but how annoying is that ! the specified CD ROM drive isn't bootable!
Moving further on, I'm going to email Fujitsu and see what their solution is, I can't beleive that restoring/re installing on this machine is such a pain and such an oversight by Fujitsu themselves!
In the BIOS, the options to boot includes 'Bootable Add-in Cards'
does anyone know what a 'bootable Add-in Card' is?! - from that, If I obtain said mysterious bootable add-in card, I'd have thought I'd be good to go!
I can remember bits and blobs of using DOS - I'll carry on internet hunting on how to try and intall the PCMCIA drivers from the floppy disc supplied with the CD drive. Fingers crossed it works !
Cheers for now - shall keep you all posted to the outcome of all this!
(I should have just paid more and got myself another 2120!!)
