It probably will work, I am using my 3COM in Ad-hoc mode with another old laptop. One thing to be aware of is that the drivers from 3COM for Win XP are terrible. The card has to be disabled/reenabled after a suspend, hibernate typically works. The XJack antenna is nice but range is quite a bit worse than with a WaveLAN card (still my favorite). cheers, Heiko
